For reported results and prepared narratives about our Metro Atlanta Speaks survey, you can find those at our Metro Atlanta Speaks(MAS) website, our 33n blog MAS 2024 snapshot, or in this AJC article. BUT if you’re a more-than-casual data user and you’re looking for something deeper? You’re just like us then–and you’ve come to the right place. We created the MAS 2024 dashboard for…well…you!
This blog post is going to show you what is available through our MAS 2024 dashboard for you to explore. There are three primary pages on the dashboard: (1) Metro Atlanta Summary is now available on mobile, and the data is exportable; (2) Results Breakdown shows historical geographic and demographic breakdown data; and (3) FAQ answers (most) all questions you may have.
Check out last year’s blog post where we used the dashboard to dig into what Metro Atlantans thought of the economy to get an idea of what you can do with the tool’s features.
1. Metro Atlanta Summary Page
The Metro Atlanta Summary page shows what the entire Metro Atlanta Region responded to a survey question over every year said question was asked on the survey dating back to 2016. You can track year over year change from different Metro Atlanta survey respondents on this page.
You can select any survey question asked in our 2024 survey by clicking the drop down menu. They are sorted by question topic. Any questions that are new, only asked in 2024, will not have historical responses. These questions are denoted at the end of the question in the question selection drop down menu.
Mobile Functionality
For the first time for this dashboard design(which debuted with our MAS 2023 survey results), a mobile layout is available. You can only access the Metro Atlanta Summary Page though on the mobile format. The detailed breakdown view below is unavailable
Exporting Data or Figures
In the bottom right of the dashboard, if you click on the box with a downward pointing arrow, you can export the data for the Metro Atlanta Summary or images of the charts for your own analysis and reports
2. Results Breakdown
This page is where the “gold” in the data is hidden. Results Breakdown allows you to see how different groups of people responded to the same question in any available year. To compare how different groups responded with the same answer to the same question in the same year, compare the bars in the chart vertically in a column. To compare how the same group responded with different answers to the same question in the same year, compare the bars horizontally in the same row.
All the available ways to see responses by group are shown in the drop down above that is located in the top right hand side of the page. Some especially uncommon breakdowns are “Remote Worker Status” and “Years in Metro Atl”.
The group breakdown has one special group– which is County. The geography group has a spatial context which makes it different from the rest of the breakdowns (which are demographic).
All the available ways to see responses by year are shown in the drop down above that is located in the top right hand side of the page. Some years the question was not asked, so you will not see a sensible chart breakdown
Historical tracking
When you hover over a bar in the bar chart, a tooltip appears with the historical response for that question and demographic cross-tab, so you can compare a given group’s response over time. If you click on the tooltip chart, you can access an expanded view of the historical breakdown chart shown below. This is a powerful feature (new this year) to illustrate how a specific group’s opinion (note: with different respondents every year) changes.
3. FAQ
The FAQ page provides details on why certain data may not be available, outlines how we collected the data, and provides resources if you have more questions, along with links to the full Kennesaw State Burruss Institute report.
Hopefully this quick run-through has given you pointers on all the cool things you can do with the dashboard, and intrigued you enough to want to explore the dashboard yourself!
