College graduation season is upon us — and congrats to all making progress towards their educational goals. In celebration of the season, we did what we do best: make maps.

The first map (immediately below) shows, by Census tract, the percentage of residents age 25 or older who have attained a bachelor’s degree or higher. You can zoom in/out or pan around the map using the plus and minus buttons or your mouse (for panning). You can learn more by clicking on a Census tract of interest, which will reveal additional details, including a chart that compares the share of residents who have bachelor’s or above with the share of residents who do not have a high school diploma.

As with most Atlanta data maps, the spatial pattern is that of a strong north-south divide, with higher shares of residents with a Bachelor’s or higher living in  northern communities like Alpharetta, Dunwoody and Johns Creek.

Percent of Census tract residents with a bachelor’s or higher

You can get an idea of the distribution of residents’ majors at the county level by using the dashboard on the right below. On the map, darker shades indicate greater percentages of residents with the degree classification as selected in the box in the upper right portion of the app. Hovering over a given county on the map reveals a pop-up box showing the exact percentage of degree classification. Finally, the chart in the lower left of the app shows the ‘composition’  of each degree classification.
