Now that I-85 has reopened, is traffic back to normal? The May 2017 Regional Snapshot analyzes how the I-85 closure impacted travel throughout Atlanta. The charts below use INRIX travel speed data to take an updated look at travel speeds on select corridors on Tuesday (May 23) compared to both speeds during construction (on April 11) and historical average speed on Tuesdays.

I-285 (from I-85 to I-20E)

This shows the I-285 corridor between I-85 and I-20E. As the charts show, speeds in both directions were slower, particularly in the PM peak period (April 11). As of May 23, speeds were similar to historic average speeds, and even surpassing average speeds at some points.

Peachtree (Spring St. to Wieuca)

This shows Peachtree Rd. between Spring St. and Wieuca. As the charts show, speeds in both directions were slower (April 11), particularly in the PM peak period, and have since returned to relatively normal speeds (May 23 compared to historic averages).

Buford Highway

On Buford highway, speeds were slower (April 11) than historic average speed going both directions. Travel southbound during the morning peak period has improved (May 23).
