It’s no secret that Atlanta has seen a lot of growth, change and increased diversity over the past decades. The slideshare below explores how the Census’ recently released 2020 data figures into our understanding of regional growth and change.

Key insights include:

  • At a county level, we saw strong growth in the 2010s, but it is less than what we saw during the previous two decades.
  • Our annual average percent growth decreased to 1.5% between 2010 and 2020. It saw a high of 3.1 percent between 1980 and 1990 and again between 1990 and 2000.
  • Forsyth County began its ascent to one of the fastest-growing counties in the country in the 1990s, and it continues to outpace the region today.
  • Of ARC’s 11-county region, only three are majority non-Hispanic White, and the Asian population is the fastest-growing racial group in the region.
