Just how many trick-or-treaters can the 11-county Atlanta region expect this year? Let’s take a look at the latest Census data to get an idea! According to the 2022 1-year American Community Survey, the Atlanta metro area has about 1,886,751 households. Of those households, about 31.7% have at least one child under 18 years old. In fact, the 11-county region is home to an estimated 441,990 elementary school aged children (ages 5-11). Add to that number their older siblings, cousins, and teenage babysitters acting as chaperones for Halloween night: Another 441,089 tweens and teens in the metro Atlanta area ages 12-17 could be expected to knock on your door in search of candy.

But how many doors are there in the region to knock on? Well, the 11-county metro area has an estimated 2,033,698 total housing units. Of those housing units, about 92.8% or 1,886,751 have someone living there to answer the door for trick-or-treaters. 46,135 of these possible trick-or-treat stops also have architecture dating back to 1939 or earlier, making for a great history lesson opportunity. Below is a map showing where the oldest houses in the Atlanta region tend to be.

Watch out, though! It’s fabled that on Halloween night the veil between living and dead is the thinnest. In addition to the aforementioned historic trick-or-treat destinations, the 11-county Atlanta region also has roughly 3,773 homes built before 1940 that no one currently lives in. Should the folk tales be true, these houses are most likely to be visibly haunted come October 31!
