  • In 2018, the country had 18 million veterans. This is 7.12% of the civilian population 18 years and older.
  • Today, 1 in 10 veterans are women. The number of female veterans in the United States in 2018 was 1.7 million.
  • A little more than three-quarters of our country’s veterans are non-Hispanic white.

Veterans in Georgia

The map below shows the percent of veterans among the civilian population 18 years and older. Overall, census tracts and counties located near a military base had higher shares of veterans. Liberty County had the highest percent share (24.9 percent), followed by Chattahoochee County (19.8 percent) and Camden County (18.2 percent). The lowest shares of veterans were in Clarke (4.4 percent), Echols (4.7 percent) and Baker (4.8 percent) counties.
