It’s fabled that on Halloween, which is celebrated annually on October 31st, the veil between living and dead is the thinnest. One way to celebrate the holiday is to connect with the generations that came before us by visiting historically significant cemeteries and learning about the people buried there.

The Atlanta region is home to nearly 500 cemeteries (shown in green on the map below), 11 of which are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Places on this list are deemed worthy of preservation at the federal level due to their age, historical significance, and integrity. The cemeteries that meet this strict criteria are labeled 1-11 on the map and the links below.
