ESRI’s diversity index provides an estimate of how likely two people, selected at random from the same geographic area, will belong to different racial or ethnic groups.  Available down to the block group level, an index value of 0 means an area exhibits “no diversity” and 100 means that there is “complete diversity.”  The values calculated for the Atlanta Metro’s 10-county region, using 2017 census tract level population estimates, range from 0 (in light blue) to 93 (in light pink).  The City of Atlanta, at the center of the map, appears to contain the most areas with low diversity, whereas North Fulton, North DeKalb, and surrounding counties contain census tracts with significantly higher diversity index values.
