In the 10-county metro region, 15.8 percent of the population lives below the poverty line (see the income tab on the 20-County Data Dashboard, 2011-2015 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates). Using the Georgia Cities mapping tool on Neighborhood Nexus we can see what this trend looks like in Georgia cities.

Two sets of cities are shown here:

  • The top 25% of cities with the highest poverty rates, ranging from 35 to 73 percent (red)
  • The bottom 25% of cities with the lowest poverty rate, ranging from 0 to 13 percent (yellow)

Some of the cities with the lowest poverty rates are clustered throughout the metro region, although there are a few that have some of the highest poverty rates.
