This map from our feature on Life expectancy for low-income residents in metro Atlanta uses data from The Health Inequality Project study to show the difference in life expectancy between high- and low-income metro Atlanta residents by county. On average, for the 20-county region as a whole, a wealthier resident (top income quartile) will live 6.5 years longer than would a poor resident (bottom income quartile). When looking at the local county level, we can see that Barrow, Newton, and Fulton counties have relatively larger gaps in life expectancy (blue). Gwinnett, Forsyth, Rockdale, and Clayton have the smallest gaps (tan). As established in the national study, where you live matters for poor Atlanta residents, too.
