To start off this week, we wanted to take a look at the newly released School Climate Ratings- a rating system derived from surveys distributed to all schools in Georgia. The ratings aim to assess the perceived “culture”, character, and quality of school life. Data from the surveys are used to score each school  from one through five, with five being the highest or best possible score. The map shows the ratings (high scores represented by blue and lowest represented by red) of every elementary school in metro Atlanta. The story is all too familiar. Ratings in Fulton and DeKalb schools vary drastically depending on whether they are located in the northern or southern areas of the county. South Fulton and South DeKalb counties have the largest concentrations of schools with scores of 1 and 2 in metro Atlanta, while the majority of schools in the north have scores of 3 or higher.

For more information, please visit the Georgia Department of Education’s website or you can see more ratings on our Neighborhood Nexus site.
